The notion of variations of Hodge structures (VHS) is introduced in para-complex geometry together with the associated period maps. VHS for special para-complex and para-Kähler manifolds are constructed; these provide solutions of (metric) \(tt^*\)-bundles. For the case of odd weight, the period map is related to the para-pluriharmonic maps associated to \(tt^*\)-bundles.
