Tropicalization of group representations (Q2479728)

In this interesting paper the author studies boundary points of the compactification of the parameter space of convex projective structures on an \(n\)-manifold. The key geometric object studied in this article is a tropicalisation of the projective space over a field with a surjective real valuation, inspired by the work by \textit{J. W. Morgan} and \textit{P. B. Shalen} [Ann. Math. (2) 120, 401--476 (1984; Zbl 0583.57005)] on \(\mathbb{R}\)-trees. A similar tropicalisation approach for fields with a discrete valuation by \textit{M. Joswig, B. Sturmfels} and \textit{J. Yu} can be found in [Albanian J. Math. 1, No.~4, 187--211, electronic only (2007; Zbl 1133.52003)]. In the reviewer's opinion it might be worthwhile to study the theory of affine \(\mathbb{R}\)-buildings and, more generally, affine \(\Lambda\)-buildings as described by \textit{C. D. Bennett} in [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 68, No.~3, 541--576 (1994; Zbl 0834.20026)] and by \textit{P. Hitzelberger} in [Generalized affine buildings. Automorphisms, affine Suzuki-Ree buildings and convexity. Dissertation, Münster (2008; Zbl 1169.20305)] in order to generalise the article under review to other Dynkin diagrams besides \(A_n\).
