The paper begins with the fundamental idea of the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations and its main definitions and concepts for the case of planar differential systems. Then there is a brief survey of main results and open problems related to invariant algebraic curves, limit cycles, center-focus problem, isochronous centers and integrability. Finally, this paper contains a sufficiently extensive bibliography which is devoted to the considered topics.
