The author considers the modified Bonhoeffer-van der Pol model which is described by a singularly perturbed system and the associated degenerated system. The main purpose is to establish conditions for the existence of nontrivial closed orbits for the degenerated system and to find relations between these conditions and the existence of canard trajectories for the modified Bonhoeffer-van der Pol system.
