For the irreducible highest weight module \(L(\lambda)\) of the affine Lie algebra \(A^{(1)}_r\), the weight multiplicity \(m_{\lambda}(\mu)\) is discussed in this paper. The authors prove a conjecture on the polynomial behavior of \(m_{\lambda}(\mu)\). As applications, they check other conjectures on the leading coefficient of \(m_{\lambda}(\mu)\), and the polynomial behavior of weight multiplicities for the classical Lie algebra \(A_r\).
