This paper is a nice introduction to and concatenation of ideas connecting partially ordered sets (posets) via certain lattice cones connected to these to associated semigroup or Hibi algebras described as a sum of polynomial rings. Decomposition of these lattice cones into integrally simplicial cones (Weyl Chambers for the hyperoctahedral reflection group) provides the connection and shows the classical monomial theory to be a version of such a standard monomial theory for Hibi algebras as explained in some detail.
