The book discusses the fundamental principles of sediment transport in the geophysical context of rivers. Different approaches to modelling the sediment transport are presented. The first is the classical representation, describing bed loads and suspension transport. Then comes the statistical description of wall shear stress. Concepts from turbulent flow regime are introduced to address the limitations of classical theories. After that the authors describe a more general approach to sediment transport as a dynamical process. The fine-sand dynamics, mixtures of medium grains, and gravel beds are modelled in the next chapters. Topological rules are used to formulate the sediment transport, especially for developing the bed forms. The last chapter presents the methods of numerical simulation of sediment transport. The book reflects most up-to-date research in the field. It may be used both as a course textbook, and as a guide for practical engineers.
