Chernoff's theorem and the Chernoff product formula play a crucial role in the approximation of semigroups and the solutions of evolution equations. In this paper, the author presents some resuls on the inversion of Chernoff's theorem. Some applications are provided in order to get sufficient conditions for the validity of the Trotter product formula.
