An analytical model is suggested for computation of dynamic response to harmonic and inertia dominated hydrodynamic loading of a slender flexible cylinder vibrating in an irrotational incompressible fluid. Based on this model and using an added mass representation, a simple formula for natural frequencies of vibrations of flexible structures submerged in fluid is proposed.
