Large eddy simulation of two-dimensional isotropic turbulence (Q2564858)

For the proper sub-grid scale modelling in large-eddy simulation of isotropic two-dimensional turbulence the authors use the two-parametric viscosity introduced by \textit{R. H. Kraichnan} [J. Atmos. Sci. 33, 1521-1536 (1976)]. This viscosity includes negative and positive branches and is able to account for the peculiarities of enstrophy and energy transfer in two-dimensional turbulence. Numerical calculations on the basis of several variants of the two-parametric viscosity are carried out. One of the formulations of viscosity should be especially useful for quasi-two-dimensional flows in geophysical fluid dynamics.
