This is a historical sketch of L. V. Kantorovich's achievements in the field of numerical calculations (table of Bessel functions), programming of methods of differentiation as well as accomplishing of various operations on matrices by means of calculating machine. The author of the paper also compares the works of L. V. Kantorovich with the corresponding results of other mathematicians.
