This is a very interesting research paper dealing with the important question of the existence of extra-dimensions, which is the most exciting prediction of superstring theory in particle physics, based on the features of gravitational waves from the black hole. The two-brane model of Randall and Sundrum is mainly used to construct a formalism for the black string perturbations. In section 2, the black string in the 2-brane system is described highlighting the role of the Weyl tensor \(E_{\mu\nu}\) in deriving the effective Teukolsky equation. A master equation and junction conditions for \(E_{\mu\nu}\) are obtained in the next section on the formalism. Then the effective master equation is solved at the low energy using the gradient expansion method giving an explicit solution for the tensor \(E_{\mu\nu}\). In section 5 the effect of the Gregory-Laflamme instability on the brane world is analysed in detail. The final section is devoted to certain conclusions. The paper presents a general formalism connecting several aspects of general relativity and superstring theories of fundamental physics.
