By using time reserves, the reliability and efficiency of the functioning of a system can be increased. Here, functioning of a system is represented by a Markov renewal process and a semi-Markov process that corresponds to the renewal process. By means of Laplace transform the probability of a non-failure operation of the system is evaluated. Moreover, the stationary system characteristics and the stationary availability factor of the system are determined.
