This article surveys some recent developments of matrix versions of the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality. Special attention is paid to \textit{X.-Z. Zhan}'s inequality [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 20, No. 2, 466--470 (1998; Zbl 0921.15011)]. Remark. In Theorem 7.3, it seems not clear to the reviewer why \(A^rB^{2-r}+A^{2-r}B^r\) should have all eigenvalues real.
