In Anschluß an \textit{Irwin} (Biometrika, Cambridge, 17 (1925), 100-128, 238-250; F.~d.~M. 51, 391, 398) schlägt Verf. einen neuen, in mancher Beziehung besseren Test zur Beurteilung der Wahrscheinlichkeit von Beobachtungen vor, nämlich \[ \tau\equiv\frac\delta s, \] wobei \(s\) die mittlere Abweichung der Stichprobe \(x_1,\ldots,x_\nu,\ldots,x_n\) mit dem Durchschnitt \(\overline x\) und \(\delta\equiv x_\nu-\overline x\) ist. Verf. bestimmt die Verteilungsfunktion von \(\tau\) und gibt hierfür Tabellen. -Im zweiten Teil wird der \(\tau\)-Test für den Fall zweier Stichproben (entsprechend dem \(t\)-Test von \textit{R.~A.~Fisher}) erweitert.
