The author studies, for preaditive categories, one side quotient categories which are categories of fractions with denominators induced by some ideals. This approach extends the classical construction of quotient categories of abelian categories modulo Serre subcategories and the Verdier quotient of triangulated categories. Then the author considers these quotient categories in order to study noetherian rings and coherent functors.
