In this interesting and well-written paper, the authors discuss variants of the renorming technique which makes a non-contractive operator contractive after a suitable change of the metric and seems to go back to \textit{A. Bielecki} [Bull. Acad. Pol. Sci., Cl. III 4, 261--264 (1956; Zbl 0070.08103)]. In the second half the authors illustrate the abstract results by means of Uryson-Fredholm integral equations, Uryson-Volterra integral equations, and Presić-type functional equations involving restrictable operators (also called operators ``with memory'').
