The starting point of the paper are two figures from the correspondence of Leonhard Euler und Christian Goldbach (letters from 1744). The author shows how Euler starting from this problem concerning surfaces and angles developed with virtuosity a new method. Euler's solution is also discussed from the point of view of today mathematics.
