By a result of \textit{M. H. Kwack} [Ann. Math. (2) 90, 9-22 (1969; Zbl 0179.12103)] a normalization of a hyperbolic complex space is also hyperbolic (in the sense of S. Kobayashi). In the present note, the authors show that the converse is not true constructing a non-hyperbolic singular projective surface whose normalization is hyperbolic.
