The publication of this unabridged, slightly corrected massive book [for the 1st ed. see the authors, Seismic waves and sources. New York-Heidelberg-Berlin: Springer-Verlag. XXI (1981; Zbl 0484.73089)] presents a comprehensive mathematical theory of propagation of elastic and anelastic-plastic waves. The applications cover earthquake waves, gravity waves in water, and acoustic-gravity waves in atmosphere. The exposition includes such specific seismological topics as seismic sources, solutions for spherical Earth models, generalized rays, etc. In addition, the authors present historical information, figures, tables, solved examples and useful appendices (classical continuum theory, algebra, analysis, generalized functions, asymptotic calculus, causality, etc.).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn reviewer's opinion, many scientists, researchers, students, etc. can find in this book helpful tools and instructions for investigation in the title area.
