Earlier attempts by \textit{G. Chierchia} [Linguist. Philos. 15, 111-183 (1992)] and \textit{J. van Eijck} and \textit{F.-J. de Vries} [J. Log. Lang. Inf. 1, 1-44 (1992; Zbl 0793.03033)] to incorporate generalized quantifiers in dynamic logic are only partially successful. They introduce quantified expressions as tests that do not introduce referents of there own. Quantifiers defined in that way are not themselves dynamic expressions. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThis paper is an attempt to solve the problem of connecting the theory of generalized quantifiers and of discourse semantics in a dynamic way. It is argued that discourse referents introduced by generalized quantifiers are often plural entities rather than singular ones. It is not recognizing this that causes a number of the problems that face dynamic logic and discourse representation theory in general.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0939.00021].
