Many-valued logic and fuzzy set theory (English)
0 references
The author gives a good presentation, even from a historical point of view, of fuzzy logic and its intimate relationships with many-valued logics. He surveys the basic concepts of fuzzy set theory and the related generalized many-valued logics which permit to deal in an axiomatic way with vagueness phenomena. First, the author describes triangular norms as basic connectives for fuzzy sets. Afterwards, many-valued algebras like MV-algebras, Gödel and product algebras with the related extensions to first-order systems are described. Finally, semantic and syntactic approaches to many-valued logics with graded consequences are given together with related completeness theorems.
