A linear, discrete-time, multidimensional control system of the Roesser type with constant coefficients is considered. The fundamental definition of controllability is presented. Next, using algebraic methods necessary and sufficient conditions for controllability are formulated and proved. Several remarks and comments on controllability problems for multidimensional control systems are given. Finally, concluding remarks are presented, and possible extensions are pointed out. The relationships to controllability results given in the literature are also mentioned. It should be stressed that similar controllability considerations for multidimensional discrete control systems can be found e.g. in the monograph [\textit{J.
