Interplay of philosophy and mathematics in the classical theory of truth (English)

The author sketches some well-known examples of the use of Alfred Tarski's theory of truth in philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics and of empirical sciences. Furthermore, he discusses some of its applications and some theories developed from Tarski's original theory of truth. It is suggested that Alfred Tarski's initial motivation for developing his theory was mainly philosophical, but that he presented it as a mathematical theory and turned to mathematical applications of the theory.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0948.00030].
