Tarski's guilty secret: Compositionality (English)
0 references
The paper is devoted to some issues connected with Tarski's definition of truth, in particular to Tarski's theorem on the undefinability of the notion of truth for a given language in itself and consequently to the thesis on the impossibility of defining truth for our actual ``colloquial language''. The authors are looking for presuppositions made by Tarski that lie at the basis of his conviction of the undefinability. They claim that the source of it is the principle of compositionality. In the sequel this principle is considered and compared with new approaches and results in the theory of truth.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0948.00030].
