In comparison with the edition from 1966 of the first author alone (Zbl 0135.42304) all chapters are substantially extended and there are added two new chapters, 4: Group Theory, 18: Nonlinear Methods and Chaos, and two Appendices, 1: Real Zeros of a Function, 2: Gaussian Quadrature (the old chapters 2 and 3 are gathered up). NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe extensions with respect to the 4th edition concern tensors in Riemannian geometry, the method of steepest descent, characteristics for partial differential equations, and nonlinearities.
