Numerical computation in science and engineering (English)

This book relies on the author's long experience in the field of numerical methods and fluid dynamics. It is thought out as a little encyclopaedia and allows the reader an appropriate image on the importance and on the modalities generously offered by scientific computing. The presentation is accurate enough to avoid confusions and also simple enough to be understood by as many readers as possible, mathematicians and especially, non-mathematicians. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe aims of the book are very well-defined. Both items, the unified presentation of the theoretical and practical subjects, and the varied illustration of the making up of some numerical algorithms, are presented pointing out their own specificity. Without minimizing the inherent difficulties, the author gives examples from several fields of Science and Technology. Large references are the purpose of the final part of the text. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book is self-contained and its contents covers the basic of scientific computing. Pursuing the complete solving of concrete problems arised from practice, the book begins with some software and hardware elements, it continues with a rigorous description of the involved algorithms and also of some elements of computer simulation. Passing through specific methods of numerical linear algebra, interpolation, differentiation and integration of functions and also, through curve and surface approximation, the author's ideas arrive to ordinary and partial differential equations. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book is accompanied by numerous FORTRAN codes available inside and also on WWW. The work is kindly recommended to anyone interested in computational fields.
