The paper is devoted to a metatheoretic-like study of self-similar spherically symmetric perfect fluid models in General relativity. A space of all such ``solutions'' is defined; in view of a possible future complete classification, several important classes of models are investigated (inhomogeneous generalizations of the Friedmann spacetime, quasi-static models and a new class of asymptotically Minkowski self-similar spacetimes). In the reviewer's opinion, this approach is extremely interesting and offers new insights into the problem of spacetime classification.
