Parallel computers and complex systems (English)
0 references
The idea of the paper (a chapter in a book) is to show that using techniques from the realms of complex systems and the physical sciences can provide useful insights into parallel computing and computer science, and in particular into the efficient use of parallel computers for problems in computational science. The authors show that there are interesting synergies between computer science, the physical sciences, and the theory of complex systems. The development of models of computation and general optimisation techniques seem to be particularly suited to an interdisciplinary approach drawing from all these areas. Simulated and deterministic annealing, neural networks, elastic nets, and genetic algorithms are presented as the most promising application areas.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0954.00019].
