A method to determine the shape of solidification of a shell in the process of continuous casting of steel is studied. By establishing the model of a stable temperature field, with the observation of first and second boundary values on the exterior of the ingot, an algorithmic method to identify the shape of solidification of a shell is given with a boundary variation in the existing observation condition. Numerical tests show the validity of this method.
