In [ibid. 45, 2498-2501 (1999; Zbl 0956.94023)], \textit{C. Xing}, \textit{H. Niederreiter} and \textit{K. Lam} proposed a variation of the classical Goppa construction of linear codes from algebraic curves. By using this method, the present authors give 59 new linear codes having better paramters than the best codes available from Brouwer's table [see http://www.win.tue.nl/\(^\sim\)aeb/voorlincod.html].
