The authors present a simple and efficient method for computing nearly singular integrals. They consider the specific case of a double layer potential on a curve in two dimensions. The approach is to regularize the singularity and obtain a preliminary value from a standard quadrature rule.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEAs an application the authors obtain a method for solving boundary value problems for Laplace's equation in irregular regions.
