The book, a translation of ``Maillages. Applications aux éléments finis'' published by Hermès Science Publications (Paris, 1999), is intended for educational and industrial purposes and it is a comprehensive survey of the different algorithms and data structures useful for triangulation and meshing construction. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe introductory chapters present general purpose definitions, basic data structures, algorithms, classical mesh generation methods, metrics, differential geometry for curves and surfaces, basic notions about the finite element method. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe following chapters provide a description of various mesh generation methods. So special chapters are dedicated to algebraic, partial differential equation-based and multi-block methods, quadtree-octree based methods, advancing-front technique, Delaunay type methods, mesh generation for implicitly defined curves and surfaces, mesh modification tools. One chapter deals with Delaunay-admissible curve or surface meshes and discuss medial axis construction and various applications. Two chapters focus on optimization issues, and other two are concerning with adapted meshes. Parallel computation aspects are discussed in the last chapter.
