Quarks, fractals, non-linearities, and related elliptic operators (English)

This is a survey paper summarizing some recent results in the theory of function spaces of Besov and Tribel-Lizorkin type. Namely, the atomic and subatomic (quarkonial) decompositions of such spaces are discussed. The subatomic decomposition is described as an efficient tool which enables to define function spaces on fractals and to build up a spectral theory of related fractal elliptic operators. Moreover, it can be used for studying mapping properties of some special non-linear operators and their use in connection with a regularity theory of related semilinear elliptic differential equations.
