The drifting of the solution pattern in the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation when it is distributed by a harmonic function of the space variable is studied. Perturbation methods are used to study this problem. A numerical study of pattern drifting, when the Jacobi elliptic-function solution of the NLS equation is perturbed, is carried out.
