Blood flow in arteries and veins (English)

Biology is an example of research field in which fluid dynamics has a huge impact outside of its traditional applications within physical and engineering sciences. As illustration of this thesis, the present review describes recent progress in the study of internal flows in arteries and veins. Here the fluid-mechanical novelty comes from taking into account the interaction between blood flow and elastic properties of blood vessels. Especially, the author studies collapsible tubes on the example of jugular vein of the giraffe. Finally, the review describes pulse wave propagation in blood vessels, and examines multiply-branched arterial and venous systems which give rise to flow separation and shear enhancement that affect the physiology of blood vessels and influence the progress of divers diseases.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEContents: 1.
