Some values of Olson's constant (English)
0 references
Olson's constant of an Abelian group, denoted by Ol\((G)\), is the smallest integer \(k\) with the property that every \(k\)-element subset of \(G\) contains a nontrivial zero subsum. It is shown here that Ol\((\mathbb{Z}_2^n)=n+1\) and Ol\((\mathbb{Z}_3^n)=2n+1\) for \(n\geq 3\). The value of Olson's constant is listed for all groups of order \(\leq 55\).
