The author displays his particular view of the theory of modules over associative algebras and its relationship with the theory of comodules over coassociative coalgebras. The basic idea is to study the properties of a module \(M\) throughout the smallest Grothendieck category \(\sigma[M]\) that contains \(M\). This has been proved a valuable tool in the investigation of categories of comodules over coalgebras, as the author suggests.
