This paper gives several algebraic conditions that characterize chain-finite and locally chain-finite bounded linear operators on Banach space. One result is this: the operator \(T\) is chain-finite if and only if for some power of \(T\) there is a bounded linear operator \(B\) such that \(T^k B T^k = T^k\) and \(T^k b = B T^k.\) There is an analogous result for local chain-finiteness.
