Hypersurface dynamics in general relativity (English)
0 references
This article gives an alternative approach to the \(3+1\)-formalism to general relativity. In cases where a foliation of the spacetime by a continuous sequence of hypersurfaces is possible, the dynamics of these surfaces is studied. Deformations of the initial hypersurface leads to the known equations with the exception that the Hamilton function does not have to vanish as due to the usual Hamiltonian constraint.
