Visualisation and simulation with object-oriented networks (English)

The book documents the ``Proefschrift'' (doctoral dissertation, Technical University in Eindhoven, The Netherlands) of the author. Architecture, design and implementation concepts of an interactive simulation and visualisation environment, VISSION, are presented, up-to-date object-oriented (O-O) software design approaches are applied and discussed in resp. contrast, monolithic architecture, reliance on an application library, and O-O frameworks/components. The thesis highligths features of well-known industrial solutions and derives in the VISSION environment to an advanced solution, combining under O-O considerations, advantages and new finding. From deficiencies of C++ the author proposes for programming a solution on a meta-level, MC++, with added dataflow features (why not using Smalltalk beforehand?). The book is well-writen and well-illustrated. The contents of about the first half of pages (chapters 3-5) will be of interest for designers of simulation systems and their visualisation components; the second half (chapters 6-7) prove applicability in manifold pretentious simulation areas.
