The author proves a nonlinear Fredholm alternative between existence of eigenvalues and surjectivity of \(\lambda A-T\), where \(A\) and \(T\) are suitable nonlinear operators from a Banach space and its dual. A basic tool is a continuation principle for such operator pairs due to \textit{W. Peng} and \textit{J. R. Wolf} [Comment. Math. Univ. Carolina 38, 15-28 (1997; Zbl 0886.47034)].
