As an alternative to a periodic inspection/repair/replacement policy for maintaining deteriorating systems a quantile-based policy is proposed, where the inspection points are determined by demanding for any inspection equal probability of finding the system to be operating. The quantile-based policy, a hybrid version of it and the classical periodic policy are compared by means of numerical examples using the Weibull and a mixed exponential distribution.
