Micromechanical computational modeling of reservoir compaction and surface subsidence. (English)

The authors generalize computational dual porosity models developed for the case where the solid matrix undergoes elastic deformations. Variational formulation and the corrosponding two-level finite element approximations are proposed to discretize the dual porosity system. Numerical simulations of a compacting oil reservior and its subsidence at the surface are performed to show numerically a correlation between the microstructure and macroscopic hereditary creep phenomena governing the delayed secondary compression.
