The paper describes a finite element approximation of a mean field model of superconducting vortices in one and two dimensions. The solutions of these approximations are investigated and it is justified that if the step \(\Delta t\) and the mesh size \(h\) tend to zero, then the solution of the approximation converges to the weak solution of the continuous model. A finite element approximation of the free boundary problem which is a special case of the steady state solution of the model is also studied.
