The article is divided by countries and covers, among others, the work of the Russians Vashchenko-Zakharchenko, Letnikov, Nekrasov, and Sonin, the Germans Schlömilch, Grelle, and Frobenius, the Italians Cazzaniga, Pincherle, Amaldi, and the British Spottiswoode, (William) Russell, and Gleisher.
