Berlin of the period played an important role in the development of mathematics in Russia. C. Weierstrass was the most favored professor among the Russian students. E. Kummer, L. Kronecker, and L. Fuchs were popular, too. Some modern branches of mathematics in Russia (complex analysis, analytical theory of differential equations, Moscow geometrical school etc.) have their roots in Berlin.
