This survey paper presents the main aspects of the emergence of mathematics in old Russia. The author concentrates on three works written between XIVth century and the begining of XVIIIth century. The first is a document on ``digital alphabets'' (ca. 1399). The author compares the Russian digital alphabets using 35 symbols with Byzantine prototypes. Other two documents conserved at the Russian state library are also presented. There are included excerpts from these manuscripts and interpretations are given in contemporary notation. The paper includes significant references to original traditional mathematical works and to historical papers and books on Russian mathematics from XIIth to XVIIIth centuries.
