Two Russian theoretical physicists want to explain the importance and beauty of physics in everyday life. E.g. in the chapter ``Craving microwaved mammoth'' they chat about the different means mankind developed to roast meat and they finish by discussing the properties of a microwave oven (with graphs and formulas). The book contains altogether 24 such chapters, only 5 of them dealing with modern physics. Most of these short essays appeared first in the journal ``Kvant'' (its English translation is ``Quantum''). NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEUnfortunately, the book has been translated by a Russian physicist whose English is not up to this task. His mistakes are not always amusing (as he himself expects) but are most of the time misleading and disturbing. E.g. there is quite a difference between ``a'' theory and ``the'' theory or between ``if'' and ``when'' etc.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINETherefore the book cannot help to popularize science.
