The author considers a diffeomorphism \(f\:M \to M'\) of two surfaces \(M\) and \(M'\) in a Euclidean space and defines the function \(\rho=\frac{1}{2}|p - f(p)|\) for \(p \in M\). An explicit formula for the Hessian of the function \(\rho\) is found and some geometrical properties of diffeomorphic surfaces are discussed.
